Abstract

Aq. acid solns. of collagen prods. of mol.wt. 50,000-150,000 are prepd. by treating collagen, its fibres, gelatin or chromium shavings with a nitric acid soln. of >10% conc. at 0-60 degrees C. The collagens are precipd. on a support as microporous prods. by pH modification. A polymer such as polyamides, polyesters, may be co-prepd. with the collagen. The prods. have improved mechanical properties, microporosity, touch and thermal insulation.
