Abstract

A flexible insulating sheath which can absorb tractive stresses e.g. for protecting conductors joined to a suspended commutator, has a filament capable of absorbing tractive stresses embedded in its walls parallel to the longitudinal axis. The flexible sheath provides a water tight sheath which absorbs tractive stresses at a low cost and which will accommodate a number of different cable sizes within it. The sheath is pref. of circular section and of PVC. The stress absorbing filaments are pref. non-org. e.g. glass fibre and embedded rigidly in the walls of the sheath. The sheath is pref. fixed to the hoisting appts. and to the commutator by conical fixing sleeves and tightening rings.
