Abstract
Submarine supports comprise flexible webs on bodies which can be coupled at set spacings to form a stack with a through hole or passage. The webs pref. resemble flat or concave discs with holes, crevices or grooves to assist anchorage of shellfish larvae or 'chaulage'. The stack may be anchored to the sea floor by stakes, cables, anchor weights/floats and/or underwater frameworks. Pref the units are plastic mouldings which interlock as friction or snap fit profiles or by threaded couplings. Units are pref. made of polyethylene, polypropylene PVC, polyamide, thermosetting materials known as 'bakelite'(RTM-BXL LTS). or of urea-formaldehyde resins. Pref. the plastics matrix incorporates certain metals or salts thereof, specifically Cu, Fe, or Mn, pref. 1-3% wt concs to attract and stimulate shellfish. Prod is more durable than netting or wooden stakes, easy easy to handle, is more regular and does not splinter.
