Abstract

The basic bismuth salts of xanthane gums of formula where R is the polysaccharide radical resulting from the fermentation of Xanthomonas campestris, are used as pharmaceutical excipients. The bismuth salts are antacids, and antiseptics, and are prepd. as described in 26.11.70-043254. 2% concns. of the bismuth salts swell in presence of electrolytes to form gels useful as a base for internal and external pharmaceutical formulations for the healing of lesions.
