Abstract

The bath trough has a rear shallow slag settling zone and a front deeper slag forming zone where the flux is added. The starting melt is fed into the bath between the two zones and the blowing gas is directed at the slag forming zone applying a pressure of between 2 and 10 atmospheres onto the melt surface effecting vertical melt circulation. A wier pref. separates the shallow and deep bath sections. The chamber permits the carrying out of continuous steel making.
