Abstract

Cpds. are of formula (I): (where X is H, halogen, alkyl, OH, alkoxy; R is H or phenyl opt. substd. by X), and salts of (I), with organic and inorganic bases. The cpds. have antiinflammatory and analgesic activity and may be used for treatment of rheumatic diseases at 100-1000 mg/day in man. They are prepd. by alpha-methylation of esters of the corresp. acetic acids using methyl iodide in presence of sodamide and hydrolysing the resulting propionic acid ester.
