Abstract

The main DC feed to the electrode and workpiece from the welding current generator unit is via. a r.f. choke, esp. of the ferrite tube parallel line type, and on the arc side of this choke a l.f. generator is connected via. blocking capacitors between the electrode and through a high pass circuit to earth and thus the workpiece. The h.f. generator is a spark gap across the high voltage secondary of a lossy iron circuit transformer whose primary circuit includes two relay contacts in series. One relay is normally open and closes when its operate coil is fed with the open circuit voltage from the DC rails, opening as soon as the arc strikes and that voltage falls. The other is a time delay relay.
