Abstract

A mandrel is assembled from six component parts into a shape upon which a tubular bend or elbow can be built up by a winding tenchnique. The parts comprise two straight cylindrical end pieces and four pieces which form a curved cylinder. Pref. the component piece locate end to end in tongue and groove joints and are clamped by tie bars mounted axially through the end-pieces. Pref. twin side panels each present about 60 degrees of arc of the elbow cross section. For use in producing pipe elbows, esp. from resin impregnated wound filaments or tapes, the mandrel is readily dismantled and removed for re-use.
