Abstract

The pallet has a slot or step along or inside each edge of its upper face to locate and stiffen the walls of a skirted or open-ended cardboard pack. Pref. the underside of the pallet is supported by hollow blocks separated by gaps with shallow channels which accept pack straps without risk of fouling lifting forks entering between the blocks. Pref. plastic saddles spread the strap loadings on the edges of the pallet and the pack. The pallet face may be slotted to locate park partitions and/or to allow use either way up. Esp. suitable for air freight pallets, since mechanical interaction between the pallet and the pack increases the strength/weight ratio of the combination. Packs and pallets can be stacked flat for return journeys.
