Abstract

Cylindrical body is formed from a core and a first coaxial layer of materials having the A 15 crystalline structure (tungsten like beta-structure) e.g. Nb and Sn, capable of forming a superconductive cpd. e.g. Nb3Sn, by the high-temp diffusion process (at 600-1300 degrees C for 5 mins to 20 hrs) and an outer coating made from a material having good electrical and thermal conductivity (pref. cu) which stabilises the superconductor by protecting it against overheating resulting from a faulty breakdown of the superconductivity. The cylindrical bodies can be subjected to drawing to improve the contact between the outer coating and the superconductor core, and to correct the dimensions of the body.
