Abstract

Submarine nuclear reactor comprises a fissile material (I) core whose central part (II) is a number of electrically interconnected thermionic diodes (III) each of whose emitters contains (I) to permit the chain reaction, and surrounding (II) are a no. of combustible elements which complete the critical mass of the core. An inert gas envelopes surrounds (III) as a thermal barrier between (III) and the rest of the core, and core cooling means and neutron reaction control means are >=1 absorbent element which are mobile into and out of the peripheral zone of the core.
