Abstract

Thermoplastic polyarylethers made by condensing an activated dihalide and a bisphenol to give a polymer in which at least half the repeat units have formula: (where Ar = aromatic gp. derived from a bisphenol, X = F, Cl or Br and Y, Y', Z, Z' = H, F, Cl or Br). Products have good heat and flame resistance and electrical properties, and can be processed as thermoplastics e.g. by injection or compression moulding at about 300 degrees C, or applied as lacquers.
