Abstract

Liquid fuel burner for a glass melting tank comprises a mixing chamber of circular section, constriction joined thereto, appts. for introducing a jet of fuel into the chamber towards the constriction and an annular chamber having an exit, which surrounds the exit from the constriction, surrounding the mixing chamber coaxially in which exists for the fuel mixt. are provided characterised in that an atomising gas is introduced tangentially into the mixing chamber so as to form an eddy of primary gas which mixes with the fuel so that the mixture exists via the construction, and in that a second current of gas enters the annular chamber, tangentially to form a secondary eddy which further acts on the mixture as it passes through the constriction and burner exit. The two eddies are in the same or opposite direction. Improved mixing is obtained and hence higher thermal efficiency of fuel.
