Abstract

Alloy for high temp. use in parts of machines esp. gas turbines working in an oxidising atmos. comprises mainly a compsn. chosen from the part of the ternary equilibrium diagram Ni3Al-Ni3Ta-Ni contg. the pseudobinary eutectic invariant Ni3Al-Ni3Ta the corresp. monovariant and the ternary-eutectic, and which has an oriented microstructure comprising a matrix of Ni3Ta with elongated parallel ppte. fibres of Ni3Al. Both cpds. contain in solid soln. at least one element in amt 0-27 wt %. The alloy has better high temp. props. than the usual superalloys even the fibre reinforced alloy of prior art.
