Abstract

Paper paste suspension incorporating a water soluble copolymer of (1) 30 - 95% acrylamide (2) 2 - 20% (meth) acrylic acid (or its salt), (3) 5 - 50% of a monomer of formula: where R1 is H or CH3, r2 is 1 - 6C (hydroxy) alkyl, but is 2 - 3C hydroxy alkyl when R1 is CH3 and (4) 0 - 20% acrylonitrile. The paste gives paper with good tear and bursting resistance and has good rheological props.
