Carbonated spent liquor is evaporated in successive stages (a) at atmos. press. to crystallise out Na2CO3. H2O, and (b) at industrial vacuum press. to crystallise NaCl. The monohydrate is further calcined to the anhyd. form. The filtrate is recycled with the initial spent liquid feed. Pure NaCl is formed suitable as feed-stock for Hg-cathode cells in Cl2 prodn.
