Abstract
Metal is transferred from a crucible to a processing vessel by means of a trough into which a siphon dips. The siphon consists of a bent tube, one end of which dips into the trough while the other end is of larger dia. and forms a bell which dips into the processing vessel. When the metal level in the vessel falls it rises in the first leg of the tube until at a given level it pours into the second leg and thence into the vessel. The level in the vessel is thus kept at a threshold value. The appts. acts as a siphon with a pocket of air interposed, which may be replaced by inert gas. When several vessels at different levels are to be supplied, several siphons are used.
