Abstract

Manufacture of an insulating article for building construction, of expanded inorganic material (clay, glass, slag, flotation waste etc) by depositing successive layers, each one being expanded before formation of the subsequent layer, wherein after the expansion to two or more layers, a forced air cooling is applied to the lower part of expanded body during the expansion of subsequent layers providing a temp. difference between top and bottom of 250-600 (450) degrees C. The process reduces the final cooling time and stabilises the expanded material immediately after heat treatment producing a block of stable dimensions, so that demoulding and subsequent operation may be carried out even before application of forced air cooling from above, which is esp. useful for thick block material.
