Benzodiazepinones of formula : (where R1 is opt. substd. phenyl; R2 is H, alkyl opt. substd. by an acid or amine gp. (sec. or tert.) opt. quaternised or as salt, provided that R2 is neither H nor phenyl when R1 is Me, and is not H when R1 is H; R3 and R4 = H, alkyl, a heterocyclic ring, a benzene ring, either of the latter two being opt. substd.). The cpds. are transquillisers at 100 mg/kg. i.p. in mice.
