Abstract

A manipulator arm-mounting platform is carried at one end of a hollow shaft which can slide axially within a sleeve to which it is keyed for simultaneous rotary displacement; essentially, a motorised screw and nut device provides axial movement of the shaft within the sleeve and a separately-motorised gear drive imparts rotary movement to the sleeve. Pref. the manipulator head is mounted on a telescopic, spring-loaded rod. Facilitates the handling of highly radio-active objects within shielded chambers. Capable of extremely precise, delicate handling and positioning.
