Abstract

Components incorporate axial reinforcement filaments splayed near the ends by integrally moulded preformed wedges or tapered cones of resin to reinforce the component profiles where these are held in a (metal) casing. Components pref. have carbon filaments bound by epoxy resins, esp. rotor blades having a fibre reinforced skin and a foam filled body, pref. coated with rubberised polyurethane. Esp. for securing (variable pitch) impeller blades onto compressors, turbines, fans propellers etc. to obtain greater axial or torsional strength than components where the principal reinforcement fibres maintain a constant profile and anchorage profile bulges are formed only of bulk resin or independent fibres.
