Abstract

Preform formation placing a measured dose of powder into a mould with a porous base, fluidising the powder to distribute it evenly throughout the cavity and then pressing the powder, to a consolidated preform biscuit of uniform thickness or at the pressures required for a final moulding. Moulding components of varying thickness is possible, pref. using a complex ram to apply compressive forces proportional to the local depth of powder. Construction of sinter plates support full moulding pressures disclosed. Esp. for moulding PTFE powders to ensure uniform distribution of the powder.
