Abstract

Filaments, fibres, films shaped articles of good dyeability and textile/physical properties are prepared by extrusion of a softenable copolymer obtained by copolymerisation of 50-92 wt.% acrylonitrile, 8-50 wt.% of one or more aliphatic or alicyclic 2+ C alkenes and/or one or more ethylenically unsaturated carboxylates partic acrylates, opt. 1-15 wt.% one or more other copolymerisable cpds. and 0.2-10 wt.% pref. 0.4-50 wt. % one or more ethylenically unsaturated sulphonic acids with one or more -SO3H group per molecule or their sales, using known polymerisation initiators. Extrusion takes place at 150-250 degrees C at 1-10 (2.5-8) m/min spinning rate. The shaped articles are drawn off from the spinning jets with an 8:1 to 100:1 drawing ratio, and stretched at 80-135 degrees C to 5-30 (8-24) times their length.
