Abstract

Hexagonal crystalline plates of a titanium phosphate of thickness >=0.05 mu and molar ratio titanium: phosphate 0.3-0.95 are produced by reacting titanium sources with orthophosphoric acid at elevated temp. and autogenous press. Precise compsn. and size can be controlled by varying the treatment conditions. The material is used for reinforcing polymers and constructional materials, paint pigments, paper coatings, light stabilisers with enhanced reflectance to UV, fluid viscosity regulators, and ion-exchange media.
