Abstract

Glass fibre tapes impregnated with PTFE are backed by or bonded to flexible metal bands or belts of similar length for use in pairs to nip thermoplastic films between heated jaws to form a welded seam. Esp. used for continuously sealing thermoplastic bags or sachets travelling through a packaging machine. The PTFE coating is more securely anchored to a fabric than coating directly on a metal band and protection of the glass fibre band by a metal band driven at the same speed minimises wear on the glass fibre tape. Contact between the plastic bags and the coated bands is good with both travelling at the same speed.
