Abstract

Coated fabric consists of a base layer of woven or knitted textile material, which is bonded on one side with a foamed poluurethane layer itself bonded on the opposite side with a film or coating of a polyurethane elastomer, while the foamed polyurethane layer is heated under pressure after bonding to the base layer in order to alter its physical properties. The coated fabric is useful as imitation leather for use in clothing, shoe uppers, and car and furniture upholstery. The heating under pressure improves the general properties of the fabric, such as flexibility, and softness, thus improving its compact during use.
