Abstract

Separation of a body in its liquid or solid state from a liquid matrix, at a high temp., by generating an alternating magnetic field in the composite mixture, with a medium frequency such that the induced electric currents are generated predominantly in the interior of the mixture. The medium frequency alternating magnetic field is produced after or before attaining a final equilibrium between solid and liquid, and pref. has a value of 10 kHz. The method, which is not however applicable to all mixtures, is partic. useful at very high temps., e.g. 2000 degrees C where the usual physical methods of separation cannot usefully be applied. Examples refer to separation of niobium, tungsten and molybdenum from copper alloys.
