Abstract

PV acetate or copolymers of 65% vinyl acetate and 35% alkyl acrylate, maleate, fumarate etc. are prepd. by polymerising in aqueous phase in the presence of 4 emulsifiers i.e. anionic (I), non-ionic (II) emulsifiers and cellulosic (III) and natural gum (IV) colloids. The latex dispersions can be gelled and de-gelled many times in cycling gel tests at -20 degrees C to +20 degrees C, can be diluted with water without precipitation occurring, are stable to electrolytes, and have maximum viscosity of 500 cps at 20 degrees C. Used in textile auxiliaries, water-based paints cements etc.
