Abstract

An aq. solution containing salts of Co + Fe2, Co + Ni, of Co + Fe2 + Ni., has its pH value steadily raised with agitation and control of temp. to form a precipitate which is reduced in a liquid phase after separation of the solution. Specif. reduction may be effected with boron hydride or hypophosphites in an aq. or alcoholic medium with pH >6.5; or in a polar liquids with alkaline hydride or alkaline Al hydrides or alcoyls. Over the metal powder obtained may be passed a mixture of an inert gas containing 0.5-1.0% O2 (pref. is not >0.2%) and an inert gas containing 0.5-5.0% N2O(pref. is not 2.0%) over a period of 20 hrs.
