Abstract

In prodn. of polyurethanes (pref. foams) from poly-hydroxy cpds., polyisocyanates, flame retardants and (opt.) foaming agents and other additives, 1-20, pref. 1-15% with respect to weight of the polyisocyanate used, of an N-methylol cpd. of formula acyl-N-(CHO)n-CH-OH are used, wherein the acyl residue is -COH-, -COR"-, -COOR"-, -SO2R"-, -SO2R"'-, -PO(OR")2-; R and R' are H or 1-4C alkyl; n = 1, 2 or 3; R" is 1-18C alkyl; R"' is 6-14C alkyl or aryl). Advantage: Flame resistance of the products is considerably increased.
