Abstract

Pigments are dispersed in binders under aqueous conditions and applied by brush or spray to metal tubes and plates. Curing achieved by water-saturated atmosphere, or by stoving depending on type of binder used. Pigments are oxides (or mixture) of Ca, Mg, Zn, Al, Ti, Mu, Fe, Cu, Ni, Cr, Zr, Pb, often previously calcined. Binders are Al or Mg phosphates or both, or mixtures of one of these with Ca, Cu, Fe phosphate. The binders are dehydrated for atmospheric curing type, whilst stoving binders are not dehydrated. Bentonites etc. may be added. Advantages are non flammability and heat resistance good resistance to corrosion and atmospheric conditions improved adhesion impact resistance etc. The object of this invention is that it makes such inorganic coatings readily available, of easy application, and of varied and versatile formulation.
