Abstract

Process for the prodn. of shaped articles, especially chipboard, from wood fines and aqueous alkaline phenol-formaldehyde condensates as binders, by curing the preformed article under the action of heat and pressure, is characterised by the use of aqueous alkaline phenol-formaldehyde condensates, to which further alkali is added shortly before use. The process gives wood-based shaped articles, especially chipboard, with generally improved properties. In particular, the strength of the articles is increased, and the swelling behavior with water or steam is improved.
