Abstract
Composite mouldings are made by partial contact between a fabric made from plastic fibres and one or more blocks or sheets of solid plastic matl. so that the matls are mechanically coupled and/or anchored by superficial fusion without significant destruction of the fibrous material. Used for reinforcing panel or hinge zones in plastics packaging or containers etc. e.g. lay-flat boxes or carrying handles. The fibrous layer may be exposed beyond or between the block(s) of solid moulding material. Fibre-reinforced linkages can be stronger than integral unreinforced hinges made by local compressive orientation.
