Textile apparatus comprises in combination a web-treating chamber and a stenter for passing fabric webs through the chamber; upright protective walls being arranged above and below horizontal carriers 11 for pin blocks 18 and define slots 14 therebetween through which the carriers 11 project into the chamber. As shown, chain guides 15 with combined clip and pin grippers 17 are located between walls 22 having nozzles for treatment fluid, e.g. gas or steam. The walls 12, 13 are connected to the guides 15 by supports 20 and may be provided with insulation 19. Preferably, the walls 22 are situated close to the walls 12, 13 so that no streams of cold air can enter the treatment chamber. The carriers 11 may be made from metal and may also be made of a material with low heatconducting properties and may be perforated at least in the area of the walls 12, 13. Alternatively, the carriers 11 may be made of strip-like elements or rods. Fig. I shows the pin blocks 18 in use and Fig. 2 shows the clips in use with the fabric 10 passing between the walls 12, 13. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the walls 12, 13 are part of a casing (16) used only with pin blocks (18) and which is situated between the walls (22). In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the casing (16) is connected to nozzles (21) by supports, the nozzles (21) being slidably adjustable to accommodate different widths of webs.
