Abstract

An alarm system of a control complex for a nuclear power plant having means of computing a representative condition signal for a power plant parameter and a screen connection 78 comprising a first screen area for displaying a picture of an activated alarm token when the representative signal exceeds a threshold, and another screen area for displaying an alarm-related message which is connected to the activated token. The priority of spatially fixed, activated alarm token in an alarm token series is indicated by a shape code for the token, and preferably the same shape code is used when the same alarm condition is indicated elsewhere in the control room. The status of the alarm token can be automatically changed or changed by operator approval, but sounds and/or blinking indications will continue to provide status information to the operator. The setpoint for activation and the priority of a particular spatially fixed alarm token can be changed depending partially on the operating mode of the power plant. Alarm acknowledgement can be done not only from an alarm token series of a particular console but via other touch- sensitive alarm indicators in screen windows of the monitoring system in the same or other consoles. Many alarm sources can be acknowledged by touching a single token. <IMAGE>
