Abstract
In a process of and apparatus for producing vitreous beads, feedstock, fuel and comburent are discharged from a burner assembly 1 into a combustion chamber 20 where the feedstock is acted upon by flame 26 so that the feedstock is heated and formed into beads. The beads are then drawn off from the chamber. Non-combustible gas is supplied to the combustion chamber 20 via a duct 25 surrounding the burner 1, to maintain a stream which flows along the flame path around the flame 26 to form a gas sleeve.
