Abstract

Method of manufacturing a derived timber board from a pressed-material mat, which is composed of chip and/or fibre material and a binding agent, by pressing for a predetermined press time, subdivided into several press-time intervals, and curing by means of steam between heated press plates of a platen press. The press plates have a device for the supply of steam from a steam generator and, on the side of the pressed-material mat, a multiplicity of steam apertures, distributed over the press, from which the steam can discharge. The pressed-material mat is fed in between the press plates. The press plates are then moved together into a precompression position while the pressed-material mat is precompressed in a first precompression press-time interval, the steam then being fed during a steam-processing time interval through the steam apertures of both press plates into the pressed-material mat. In a final-compression press-time interval, the press plate is moved together into an end position defining the thickness of the derived timber product while the pressed-material mat is compressed further. In this end position of the press plates, the pressed-material mat is curved, without further supply of steam, in a final press-time interval.
