Abstract
An alternator, especially for motor vehicles, has a rotor (8) having two pole bodies (9) and (10) which have interleaved scale-like claws which are arranged in rows and, on the other hand, are connected to an annular, central magnet. A ring (22) consisting of soft-magnetic or ferromagnetic material is mounted such that it can rotate freely with respect to the rotor (8) and can be displaced axially in the lateral direction between a position remote from the rotor and a position on the rotor. When the ring is resting on the rotor, the magnetic excitation flux is deflected by the ring (22) the rotor (8) is in this case in a magnetic short-circuit condition. The ring (22) is supported by a sliding sleeve (17) which is supported on a bush (6) in a sliding manner such that it can be displaced axially with the aid of a rotatable driver (15), the driver being connected to an auxiliary control motor (16) (Fig. 1).
