Abstract

A valve arrangement 14, 15 which controls unheated and heated air inlets 4 and 5 is operated in response to expansion and contraction of a memory metal helical spring 11 of a Ni, Ti or Cu, Zn, Al alloy. The spring 11 may increase or decrease in length in response to rise in air intake temperature such that air flows through the inlets 4 and/or 5 to provide the desired air temperature. The inlets 4 and 5 may be controlled by respective valves (45, 46), Fig. 5 (not shown), connected by a pivoted link (54).
