Abstract

A marine gear system is provided with a clutch (5) through which a driving shaft (1) can be connected to an output shaft (18). In order to shift to slow mode operation a planetary gear system (9) is provided having an annular wheel (10) which can be held stationary in order that the output shaft (18) can be driven from the primary side of the clutch (5) by way of the planetary gear system. The gear system has two similar branches, one for motion ahead and the other for motion astern.
