Abstract
In a process for manufacturing e.g. wire rods of precipitation hardenable aluminium alloy the first step comprises an exclusively thermal step of continuously quenching a continuous bar for obtaining a restored and supersaturated structure. The second step immediately follows the first step in the same continuous operation and comprises the working, preferably rolling, of the bar at an aging temperature into wire rods, which are subsequently submitted to aging. The starting material may be a bar formed by continuous casting and hot rolling, while aging may be carried out by retarded cooling.
