Abstract
Combined treatment of coke-oven gas (I) and blast-furnace off-gas (II) is effected by sepg. CO from (II), adding the CO to (I), and methanating the mixed gas to produce substitute natural gas (SNG). (I) is pref. compressed and desulphurised before adding the CO. The CO can be sepd. by scrubbing compressed (II), e.g. by the "Cosorb" process. Methanation is pref. effected in a fluidised-bed catalytic methanator. The process is simple and inexpensive to operate and can be combined with prodn. of ammonia synthesis gas.
