Abstract
Electric discharge or incandescent lamps have a quartz glass lamp envelope (1) with a flat pinch seal (3) in which at least one current supply wire (5, 10) is incorporated. Over a part of its length the current supply wire (5, 10) has a circumferential coating (6, 9) of intermediate glass, between the ends of which the glass of the pinch seal (3) is fused with that of the coating (6, 9). On each of its major side surfaces (14, 15) the flat pinch seal (3) has a raised ridge (16, 17, 18, 19) extending over the whole pinched length of the current supply wires (5, 10) and situated above each of the said wires incorporated in said pinch seal.
