Abstract

An intercommunication system for use with at least two telephone sets, each connected through a four- wire (2 for speech, 2 for control signals) cable to a common processing unit located at the customer's premises. Each telephone set in addition to the conventional selecting means comprising a plurality of select keys equal in number to the maximum number of telephone sets for which said processing unit is designed for selectively calling through said processing unit by optical and audio signals any of the telephone sets for intercommunication through a common line, a central office line key for establishing a connection to a common central office line, and for taking over a call transferred from another telephone set of the system, and optical signal reproducing means. Said common processing unit being adapted to accomplish all the necessary switching and signalling functions for handling intercommunicating traffic and traffic through the central office line.
