Abstract

A speed control system for a tape recorder comprises two reading heads TL TA spaced a preset distance apart along the tape, delay line LR for delaying the signal from the first head by an amount corresponding to the head separation and the desired tape speed, and a phase comparator CP which produces a tape drive control signal for driving the tape at the desired constant speed.
