Abstract

The first temp.-dependent semiconductor device for the detector is supplied with current sufficient to heat the detector above ambient temp. The device is dipped into the measured medium, which provides a greater temp. gradient. A second semiconductor device for dipping into the measured medium is supplied with a lower current than the first one. Thus its heating effect is lower. The flowable medium is detected by differences between the two semiconductor devices. Pref. the two semiconductor devices are mounted at the same height, relative to the surface of the measured medium so that they are dipped into it, or retracted from it simultaneously. The temp. differences may be used for cutting off the voltage at both semiconductor devices so that the voltage difference may be also used for the detecting process. Typically Zener diodes are used and their anodes are interconnected. The detector finds application in liquid level measurement, or in aircraft height determination.
