Abstract

Cooling oil for an internal combustion engine piston passes from an engine crank chamber via a connecting rod through a piston pin (3) into an annular groove segment (5) inside the pin eyes (2) of the piston, and from there enters through an aperture in radial direction into ducts (7), (8) leading into a duct (9) the piston head. The annular groove segment (5) in the pin eyes (2) lies below a plane which runs horizontally through the axis of the pin eyes. With this construction the dimensions of the pin eye may be smaller radially than in known constructions or may obtain greater security against cracking by shifting the annular groove segment in the pin eye out of the area which is particularly vulnerable to the danger of cracking.
