Abstract
An apparatus for measuring smoke emission from motors, comprising an xy chart recorder having an electrical circuit designed to receive an electrical signal proportional to the speed of a motor under test and an electrical signal proportional to the smoke density emitted by the exhaust system of the engine and to trace these two signals, one depending on the other, on a graph during an engine test with reduction of the speed by braking load, also including said electric circuit a differentiator to differentiate the signal from the engine speed to obtain a signal proportional to the rate of change of speed of the engine and a comparator to compare the last signal with a reference signal that represents the limit or limits of speed change regime, being arranged to the comparator to prevent, momentarily, the registration of a trace if the rate of change of the speed signal moves outside of said limit or limits.
