Abstract
Appts. for handling and examining fuel rods in the deactivation pool of a nuclear reactor incorporates a vertical tubular structure, an examination station, an extractor, carriages and winches and automatic position controllers. The structure can be taken to pieces and transported. In operation it stands on the bottom of the pool. It carries cells for housing the fuel assemblies and a stockage structure. The examination station is carried by the tubular structure. The extractor, for extracting, inserting and handling the rods, comprises a telescopic assembly of vertical tubes, tubes, the lowest one in the operating position carrying a claw with movable fingers operated by a cam to hold the rods. The carriages and winches are on rails on the upper part of the structure and enable the extractor to be moved in two horizontal directions at right angles to one another and in the vertical direction. Appts. allows the rods to be examined during the shutdown of the nuclear reactor without interference with the use of the power station. It can be used at different sites in the power station and is very safe in operation handling nuclear fuel.
