Abstract

Polyurethanes, such as rigid polyurethane foams, are mfd. by (a) preparing a deriv. of urea by addn. of 1-3 moles, pref. 1.5-2.5 moles of the or more alkylene oxides to 1 mol. urea in the absence of basic cpds. at 100-140 degrees C, pref. 110-130 degrees C, and (b) reacting the urea deriv. from (a) with one or more organic polyisocyanates. Used for the mfr. of flame-resistant rigid polyurethane foams, the prods. also having good mechanical properties.
